A memorial service will be held for Korean Garnet (Baker) Glasser, 66, of Reedsport at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, at the United Presbyterian Church, 2360 Longwood Drive in Reedsport, conducted by the Rev. Doctor William F. Stevens. A private committal will be held at the Reedsport Masonic Cemetery.
Korean was born Jan. 27, 1943, in Portland, to Jesse James and Eleanor Fritzler Baker. She died Jan. 20, 2010, in Coos Bay.
She graduated from Hood River High School in 1961 and from Oregon College of Education, now known as Western Oregon University, in 1965 with a degree in elementary education.
She taught primary school in Dayton before moving to Reedsport in 1968 to work for the Reedsport School District. She taught third grade at Highland Elementary School.
Korean married Joseph Glasser in May 1971. The couple lived in Reedsport and never had any children. Joe died July 1991 after a difficult fight with cancer.
After leaving teaching, Korean worked for a variety of businesses and organizations including Eureka Fish Company, Ocean Beauty Fish Company, H & R Block and Honeyman State Park.
She enjoyed crocheting. She made beautiful afghans and other crocheted items. She also was an excellent cook. Korean loved pets, especially her beloved cats. She collected dolls and had an extensive array of collector dolls. Music was another important aspect of her life; she was a pianist and a vocalist.
Korean is survived by her sister, Linda Kay Neuman of Pendleton; brother, Steven H. Baker of Big Bear Lake, Calif.; longtime friend, Mary Ellen Wheaton of Reedsport; stepdaughters, Vicki Musgrave of Roseburg and Sharen Glasser of Brookings; nephews, Richard Matthew Neuman of Portland, Erick Carl Neuman of Milwaukie, Nathan H. Baker of Portland; nieces, Elizabeth Durant of Pendleton and Stephanie Mason of Tacoma, Wash.; cousins, Keith Fritzler of Seatac, Wash., and Tom Fritzler of LaConner, Wash.; and aunt, Anne Fritzler of Seattle, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Glasser in July 1991; mother, Eleanor Fritzler Baker of Milwaukie in 2003; father, Jesse James Baker of Truth or Consequences, N.M. in 1998; and cousin, Paul Fritzler of Seattle in 2008.
