Despite a reduced team, Reedsport swam last week at Philomath High School.
Duncan Law and Riley Johnson both broke personal records in their events while swimming against 4A Philomath and Central high schools, according to Aqua Braves coach Shelley Cox.
“It went really well,” Cox said, even though “we only had half our team there.”
In the boys 50-yard freestyle, Johnson swam 24.64 for third place, just edged out by Central’s Andrew Hasbrook at 24.45. Johnson finished the 100 butterfly in 1:10.91, also for third.
Law swam 2:53.61 in the boys 200-yard individual medley, placing fourth just behind Chris Przbyla, a Philomath swimmer who crossed in 2:50.19. Law also completed the 100 breaststroke in fifth place at 1:20.47.
“They’ve improved a lot,” Cox said. “They’re going a lot faster.”
Caitlyn Reilley swam multiple events for the girls, placing fifth in the 50 free with 38.17 and seventh in the 200 free at 3:15.72.
The Aqua Braves’ last regular meet of the season was Tuesday in Ashland. Cox said Reedsport last competed against that team at District Finals last year, after the Braves were unable to swim in the 2009 Ashland Open because of weather.
“But this year we’ll make it,” Cox said.
Districts are Feb. 13 in North Bend.
