Umpqua Post/Alex Powers Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department Captain Kurt Holmgreen stands by with a hose last week when faulty electric wires threatened to ignite a mobile home in the 3000 block of Frontage Road.
Firefighters responded early Thursday morning to a report of a possible house fire at Highland Mobile Park, preventing an electrical fire in a residence at 3000 Frontage Road.
The Reedsport Fire Department brought out 16 firefighters and three vehicles; Winchester Bay and Gardiner firefighters were placed on standby.
At the mobile park, crews found some faulty wires sparking under a stationary trailer. Firefighters shut down power to the trailer and kept the wires from igniting anything.
One firefighter crawled under the residence, tearing out insulation and spraying water beneath the trailer.
“It just shorted,” said fire Chief Tom Anderson. “We got to it in time.”
Several calls to the fire department were not returned before press time.

" I am sure the water was sprayed AFTER the power was shut off....but I am sure it is a mess under there for someone to fix. "

" Firefighters sprayed water underneath a trailer with faulty wires sparking? Really? And now, the electrician has to re-do the wiring while lying on wet ground. "
