| Softball faces a key game on Friday
The Reedsport softball team won two of three games last week, but the loss could make Friday’s regular season finale at Glide very important.
The Braves are second in the Sunset Conference with a record of 7-4. Glide is third at 6-4. Glide was scheduled to face Bandon on Tuesday. A Wildcats’ victory over the Tigers would tie Reedsport and Glide for second going into Friday’s contest.
Under that scenario, Friday’s game would be to determine the Sunset Conference’s second playoff seed.
Reedsport started last week with a 13-0 rout of visiting Myrtle Point in five innings. Thursday’s contest was delayed two days because of rain.
Hannah Smith went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Braves on offense. Chelsea Hitchcock was 2-for-3 and Shelby Wiggans and Brianna Ekelund added doubles.
Tailor Nunn allowed just one hit in five innings to pick up the win for Reedsport.
The Braves lost a heartbreaker in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Cascade Christian. Despite five errors, the Braves took an 8-7 lead into the final inning. A two-out, two-run double by Brandi Johnson gave the Crusaders the victory.
The second game of the doubleheader didn’t count in the conference standings and the Braves pounded Cascade Christian pitchers for 24 hits and 25 runs in a 25-10 victory in five innings. The Braves scored six runs in the first inning, five in the second and then 11 runs in the third to put the game away.
Stephanie Clardy and Shelby Wiggans homered for Reedsport in the second game.
